David Chipperfield received his diploma from the Architectural Association in London in 1977 and from 1978 to 1984 worked at the practices of Douglas Stephen, Richard Rogers and Norman Foster.
David Chipperfield Architects was established in 1984, and the practice currently has a staff of over 120 at its main offices in London, Berlin and Milan and a representative office in Shanghai.
The practice has won over 20 national and international competitions and many international awards and citations for design excellence, including Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Royal Fine Arts Commission (RFAC), and American Institute of Architects (AIA) awards.
In 1999, David Chipperfield was awarded the Tessenow Gold Medal, and in 2004 was appointed Commander of the Order of British Empire for services to architecture.
